Barrister Shehryar Riaz completed his LLB (Hons) from the University of Essex in 2010 and was called to the Bar by the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2012.

Since May 2017, he has been associated with Sayeed, Hfeez & Mirza, where he is currently a Partner. His practice spans a broad spectrum of legal services, with a strong focus on constitutional, civil, and regulatory litigation, as well as advisory work in corporate, tax, and commercial law. He regularly represents and advises a diverse clientele, including banks, regulatory authorities, public and private limited companies, listed entities, and major telecommunications operators. He appears before the Lahore High Court, Islamabad High Court, Special Courts, Civil Courts, and various quasi-judicial forums such as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Competition Commission of Pakistan(CCP) and Punjab Healthcare Commission.

He frequently advises on regulatory compliance matters, particularly in the telecom sector, and has represented leading industry players in licensing, enforcement, and policy-related disputes before the PTA and CCP.

From May 2022 to January 2023, Barrister Shehryar served as Assistant Advocate General Punjab, representing the Government of Punjab before the Lahore High Court in a wide range of matters involving constitutional law, administrative law, service law, tax law, and regulatory disputes. In this role, he also provided legal opinions under Section XXVIIA of the CPC, advised government departments, and assisted the Advocate General Punjab in constitutionally significant cases before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

A notable highlight of his career was his role in assisting Justice (r) Manzoor Ahmed Malik, former Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, in his capacity as amicus curiae before the larger bench of the Supreme Court in the landmark Bhutto Reference—a case of profound constitutional and historical significance.

Earlier, in 2014, he joined Ashtar Ali & Co., Lahore, as an Associate, where he practiced in both litigation and advisory domains. He appeared before the Lahore High Court, Islamabad High Court, Accountability Courts, Session Courts, and Civil Courts, handling complex commercial, civil, regulatory, and corporate disputes. He also provided legal consultancy on company law, NAB proceedings, and regulatory compliance, further strengthening his multi-disciplinary practice.

He began his legal career at the Office of the Attorney General for Pakistan, Islamabad, where he served as an Associate Legal Aide from 2012 to 2013. During this time, he conducted in-depth legal research and assisted the Attorney General in high-profile and constitutionally significant matters before the Supreme Court of Pakistan—laying the foundation for his enduring interest in public and constitutional law.
